WestPoint Expands Manufacturing Footprint in Bahrain

Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro inaugurated WestPoint’s new factory in Bahrain on 14 October 2026. The facility marks an expansion of the company’s manufacturing footprint within the country. Operations at the site focus on the production of fibre fillings for commercial use. These materials serve as the primary components for bedding, pillows, and various filled products manufactured for the GCC market.

The inauguration of this specific facility represents a significant development in the company's regional production capabilities. By focusing on fibre fillings, WestPoint is addressing a specific segment of the textile supply chain. The factory is designed to facilitate the large-scale creation of these essential materials, which are then integrated into finished goods. These finished products, including bedding and pillows, are intended for distribution across the GCC market. The production process at the new site is intended to streamline the availability of these components for regional manufacturers.

Strategic Growth and Expansion

WestPoint’s latest expansion builds upon the company’s initial operations in Bahrain, which were dedicated to the production of towels. This initial phase established the company’s presence in the country and provided the operational foundation for the current growth. Jonathan Storey, WestPoint chief executive officer, stated: "The new expansion was an important step in the company’s growth, building on the success of the first phase of towel production. It would expand the company’s manufacturing capacity to provide a comprehensive range of locally manufactured home textiles and meet growing demand in Gulf markets from Bahrain."

The transition from towel production to the addition of fibre filling manufacturing represents a deliberate strategy to diversify the company's output. By increasing the scope of its manufacturing capacity, WestPoint aims to leverage its existing infrastructure to support a broader array of home textile products. This approach is intended to allow the company to respond more effectively to the requirements of the Gulf markets.

This development occurs following the hosting of the first ‘Made in GCC 2026 Forum and Exhibition’ in Bahrain. The event served as a platform to highlight regional industrial progress and manufacturing capabilities. The forum provided an environment for stakeholders to discuss the trajectory of the industrial sector and the role of companies like WestPoint in regional economic development.

Governmental objectives for the sector are outlined in the Industrial Sector Strategy (2022–2026). This strategy aims to develop manufacturing, increase the industrial sector’s contribution to GDP, and boost exports. Officials intend for these initiatives to strengthen the presence of regional manufacturing entities while improving the competitiveness of local products within the global market. The Industrial Sector Strategy (2022–2026) serves as the primary framework for these goals, guiding the development of the industrial landscape in Bahrain. Through this strategy, the government seeks to foster an environment conducive to the expansion of existing firms and the attraction of new manufacturing projects. By aligning with these national objectives, WestPoint’s expansion contributes to the broader goals of industrial growth and economic diversification.
