The Bahraini Parliament unanimously approved a proposal to establish a dedicated employment office for people of determination on 13 October 2026. Led by services committee vice-chairman Dr. Muneer Suroor, the initiative was referred to the Cabinet for formal review. Dr. Muneer Suroor stated, "Many people of determination are fully capable of performing their duties to the highest standards. Some can even deliver exceptional results when placed in jobs that match their abilities, qualifications and potential." He noted, "However, we have come across cases in which young men and women were nominated for positions that did not suit their circumstances." He added, "Employment opportunities must be based on what a person can do, rather than on assumptions about what they cannot do."

Addressing Current Employment Challenges

Statistical data indicates that approximately 1,300 people with disabilities are currently employed in the private sector in Bahrain. Labour Ministry records reflect this figure as the primary baseline for the current workforce participation of these individuals. The new employment office aims to improve upon these figures by ensuring that job placements align more effectively with the specific qualifications and professional capabilities of the applicants. Officials intend for the office to serve as a bridge between job seekers and private firms to increase the total number of placements. By centralizing the recruitment process, the government expects to reduce instances where candidates are mismatched with available roles. The Labour Ministry will oversee the integration of these candidates into the broader workforce once the office commences operations. This initiative seeks to address existing gaps in the placement process that have previously limited the career prospects of those currently outside the private sector workforce.

Recent Data on Job Placements

Government data for 2025 indicates that 1,785 job opportunities were allocated to persons with disabilities. These records provide a snapshot of the vacancies intended for this demographic during the previous year.

Separate figures for 2025 show that 275 individuals benefited from specific employment schemes. Of those participants, 210 people were successfully placed in jobs. These statistics reflect the outcomes of existing programs prior to the parliamentary approval of the new dedicated employment office. The Labour Ministry holds these records as part of its assessment of workforce integration efforts for people of determination.
