Partior and National Bank of Bahrain Explore Blockchain Settlement

Partior and the National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore integrating the Bahraini dinar into the Partior blockchain network. This partnership seeks to evaluate the potential role of NBB as a settlement bank for the currency on the platform. The formalization of this relationship through a Memorandum of Understanding marks a significant step in the strategic assessment of digital financial infrastructure between the two organizations.

Vineet Munot, Group Head of Transaction Banking at NBB, stated: "Our engagement with Partior allows us to assess how NBB’s local market capabilities could support Bahraini Dinar settlement within an emerging digital infrastructure. We will approach this opportunity with the appropriate technical, operational and regulatory considerations as we determine its potential value for NBB and Bahrain’s banking and finance industry."

Humphrey Valenbreder, CEO of Partior, added: "Our work with NBB gives us an avenue to assess how Bahraini Dinar settlement could be incorporated into Partior’s network, building on our growing presence across the GCC. We look forward to working together to evaluate a model that can support efficient and transparent cross border flows working with a world class partner like NBB."

Blockchain Network Capabilities

Partior operates a live multi-bank blockchain network designed to facilitate cross-border payments and settlement processes. Financial institutions connected to this platform utilize its infrastructure to conduct transactions across various currencies. By leveraging this existing technology, the entities aim to determine if the Bahraini dinar can be effectively integrated into the digital ledger system, which is designed to streamline the movement of capital.

The collaboration specifically targets the functional integration of the currency, examining how the existing network architecture can be adapted to accommodate the specific requirements of the Bahraini market. This initiative aligns with the broader objective of Partior to provide a strong, multi-bank environment where participating institutions can execute settlement tasks with increased speed and reduced friction.

Evaluation of the proposed arrangement between Partior and the National Bank of Bahrain is the current focus of the collaboration. The partnership aims to evaluate the potential role of NBB as a settlement bank for Bahraini dinar on Partior's blockchain network, ensuring that all operational standards are met before any further steps are taken. The parties have not established a specified implementation timeline for the potential integration of the Bahraini dinar into the network. At this stage, the agreement serves as a framework for testing and analysis, allowing both Partior and NBB to conduct due diligence regarding the technical compatibility of the Bahraini dinar with the live multi-bank blockchain network. As the project progresses, the focus will remain on the viability of the proposed settlement model and its capacity to meet the regulatory and operational demands of the banking sector.
