Bahrain Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani called for increased international cooperation to secure transit corridors during a formal address. Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani stated that global connectivity relies on the sea, the air, and the flow of data. Addressing the current geopolitical environment, he said, "We are meeting at a time of great uncertainty in the region and beyond." The minister identified these infrastructure networks as essential components of international stability. His remarks focused on the vulnerability of current transit routes and the necessity for a unified global response to protect maritime and digital pathways. Bahrain maintains that such security measures remain vital for the continued functionality of international trade and communication systems as regional instability persists.
Threats to Global Supply Chains
Approximately 1,600 commercial ships have been blocked from transit due to recent security disruptions. These incidents have impacted the movement of vessels through critical maritime routes. More than 23,000 sailors have been deprived of their freedom as a direct result of these ongoing obstructions.
Houthi militia launched missile and drone attacks on airports in Riyadh, Abha, Jazan, and Najran in Saudi Arabia during the week of the report. These strikes targeted specific infrastructure points across the kingdom. The incidents represent a shift in the nature of regional security threats, affecting both maritime vessels and terrestrial transport hubs. Authorities continue to monitor the impact of these developments on the stability of international supply chains.
Diplomatic Efforts and Resolutions
Bahrain serves as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. In this capacity, the government calls for the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026, a measure that received support from 136 countries.
Officials met in Azerbaijan for the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) to discuss regional security protocols. During the proceedings, Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani, Foreign Minister of Bahrain, addressed the assembly regarding recent security challenges.
Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani stated, "Over the past months, Bahrain alongside the Gulf Co-operation Council countries and Jordan have been subjected to unjustified attacks targeting our cities, infrastructure and people, without us being party to any war. This was in flagrant violation of the very principles upon which this conference was founded: respect for the sovereignty and unity of states, non-interference in their internal affairs, good neighbourliness, and the peaceful settlement of disputes."
The conference participants reviewed the status of regional stability and the adherence of member states to established international mandates. Bahrain maintains that the principles cited by Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani are essential for the protection of international transit infrastructure and the maintenance of peaceful relations between nations. The government continues to advocate for the standards set forth in Resolution 2817 as a primary mechanism for stabilizing regional transport and communication networks.
