The National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) partnered with global payments infrastructure provider TerraPay to facilitate this expansion. The collaboration was formalised at Sibos 2026 in Miami, marking a significant milestone for the institution's digital strategy.

This agreement grants the National Bank of Bahrain access to more than 12 billion bank accounts, digital wallets, and local payment systems by utilizing TerraPay's network. The partnership allows NBB to access more than 12 billion bank accounts, digital wallets, and local payment systems through TerraPay's network. Ani Sane, TerraPay co-founder and chief business officer, stated, "By combining TerraPay’s global payout network with Swift connectivity, NBB can use its existing banking infrastructure to access more than 12 billion bank accounts, digital wallets and local payment systems through a single global network." He added, "This partnership gives NBB a faster and more scalable way to expand into new corridors, broaden customer choice and improve the cross-border payment experience, while allowing the bank to retain control of the customer relationship and its core banking infrastructure."

Vineet Munot, NBB Group Transaction Banking head, noted the importance of the development for the institution’s clients. "International connectivity is becoming increasingly important to how our customers operate, and our role is to ensure that NBB’s transaction banking expertise continues to serve those needs with speed and reliability," Munot said. "This collaboration is a strategic step forward in scaling our payments proposition through infrastructure that can improve the cross-border transaction experience."

According to Munot, the bank intends to use the connection to support regional clients. "Through TerraPay, we see an opportunity to connect our customers in Bahrain and the region with a wider range of payment destinations, supporting their growth as their requirements become more global," Munot explained. Sane further remarked, "NBB is a strong example of how leading banks are choosing TerraPay to extend traditional correspondent banking into the rapidly growing world of instant payments and digital wall." The integration of these digital tools serves as a primary focus for the bank as it seeks to modernize its transaction banking services for a diverse range of clients. By leveraging the scale of the TerraPay network, the National Bank of Bahrain aims to provide its customers with a more smooth method for managing their global financial obligations.
