Bahrain’s Northern Governorate is preparing for municipal development projects estimated at BD1 million. These initiatives are currently lined up for various areas within the governorate, including Shakhoora, Al Jasra, and A’ali Al Kubra. The implementation of these projects is contingent upon securing necessary budget approvals. The full plan, which encompasses a wide array of infrastructure and recreational enhancements, aims to significantly improve public facilities and services for residents across the governorate.

Project Details and Scope

The initial phase of the projects is valued at an estimated BD800,110. The overall development pipeline is projected to reach BD1 million once additional municipal schemes are incorporated. This phased approach allows for strategic planning and resource allocation, ensuring that priority projects are addressed while leaving room for future expansion. The total of 18 projects on the list reflects a broad strategy to enhance various aspects of community life.

Key initiatives noted include the development of Shakhoora Public Park and the rehabilitation of the Al Jasra coastline. These projects are expected to transform key recreational areas, providing residents with improved access to green spaces and coastal amenities. Further projects encompass upgrades to A’ali Al Kubra Garden, alongside the construction of new playgrounds and open recreational spaces. These additions are designed to cater to families and children, fostering community engagement and promoting outdoor activities. Maintenance of road intersections is also part of the plan, addressing critical infrastructure needs to ensure smoother traffic flow and enhanced safety.

Additional works involve the installation of new directional signage, enhancing navigation and wayfinding within public areas. Enhancements to park fencing will improve safety and security in recreational zones, while improvements to electrical infrastructure will ensure reliable power supply for public facilities. The introduction of solar-powered recreational facilities is also planned as part of the overall development, aligning with sustainable practices and reducing reliance on conventional energy sources. Technical studies for these projects have been completed, ensuring their feasibility and effectiveness. All necessary municipal planning requirements have been identified, laying the groundwork for a smooth implementation process. These detailed preparations show the thoroughness with which the Northern Municipality is approaching these significant development efforts.

Council Presentation and Context

The list of proposed initiatives comprises 18 projects, which were presented during the latest Northern Municipal Council meeting. Northern Municipality director-general Mohammed Al Sehli outlined the plans, explaining that they address key community requirements. The presentation served as a key step in gaining endorsement and moving forward with the budgetary process. The projects were meticulously selected based on community feedback and identified needs, aiming to deliver tangible benefits to residents.

Al Sehli stated, "These projects represent priority service demands raised through elected representatives and they address important infrastructure and public facility needs across residential communities in the Northern Governorate." He further detailed the preparatory work, adding, "We have completed the scope of work assessments, identified estimated budgets and outlined implementation requirements. The next phase now depends on securing the necessary financial allocations." These projects aim to fulfill immediate service demands and enhance infrastructure and public facilities throughout the Northern Governorate's residential areas, reflecting priorities communicated by elected representatives. The director-general's remarks showed the collaborative effort between municipal authorities and local representatives in identifying and prioritizing these vital community improvements. The full planning involved in assessing the scope of work and estimating budgets demonstrates a commitment to efficient and effective project delivery.

Urgency and Next Steps

Execution of the proposed projects is scheduled to commence from next year. This timeline emphasizes the municipality's intention to move swiftly once funding is secured. Zainab Al Durazi, chairwoman of the Northern Municipal Council services and public utilities committee, emphasized the need to expedite these initiatives. Ms. Al Durazi stressed the importance of rapidly moving the projects into formal tendering procedures. This step is considered key for ensuring timely implementation and addressing the identified community requirements. The committee's focus remains on ensuring that the necessary administrative and financial processes are streamlined to allow for the prompt initiation of construction and development activities across the Northern Governorate. The projects, once tendered, will proceed based on the availability of the allocated BD1 million budget. The emphasis on swift tendering reflects a proactive approach to project management, aiming to minimize delays and deliver the promised improvements to residents as efficiently as possible. The successful execution of these projects is expected to significantly enhance the quality of life for the communities within Shakhoora, Al Jasra, and A’ali Al Kubra, among other areas.
