A group of Bahraini lawmakers led by Ahmed Al Salloom has formally proposed that the kingdom initiate trials for 6G network technology in 2027. The legislative proposal aims to position the country as an early adopter of next-generation telecommunications infrastructure. Members of the parliament supporting the motion, including Khalid BuAnaq, Zainab AbdulAmeer, Hisham Al Awadhi, and Mohammed Al Maarafi, intend for these tests to evaluate the technical requirements and potential performance benefits of the advanced networks. The initiative seeks to establish a regulatory and operational framework for the deployment of 6G systems within the national communications sector. If the proposal receives government approval, these trials will mark the initial stage of integrating the technology into the existing infrastructure of Bahrain.
Legislative Support for Proposal
Khalid BuAnaq, Zainab AbdulAmeer, Hisham Al Awadhi, and Mohammed Al Maarafi officially support the legislative proposal to initiate 6G network trials. These lawmakers argue that the small geographic size of Bahrain combined with its high population density provides an ideal environment to test the requirements of next-generation telecommunications.
Khalid BuAnaq stated, "Bahrain could become a testing ground for 6G, giving technology firms a chance to try new systems across the country while Bahraini specialists work alongside them." He and his colleagues maintain that the compact nature of the kingdom allows for more efficient observation of signal propagation and infrastructure integration than would be possible in larger nations.
Safety and regulatory oversight remain central to the plan proposed by the group. Zainab AbdulAmeer noted, "The tests must meet strict standards, with proper checks on how the technology is used and how consumers are protected." She emphasized that the parliamentary push includes mandates for data security and operational transparency during the trial phase.
Projections included within the legislative document indicate that commercial 6G networks are expected to reach the global market between 2030 and 2035. By beginning formal trials in 2027, the lawmakers intend to ensure that the national telecommunications sector is prepared for the transition before the technology becomes widely available. The proposal remains under review by government bodies to determine if the outlined timeline and safety requirements align with current regulatory capabilities.
