Bahrain and South Korea marked the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations on 26 October 2026. The two nations reached this milestone half a century after the formal establishment of ties between Manama and Seoul. Officials from both countries observed the occasion by reflecting on the longevity of the partnership, which has continued since 1976. The diplomatic relationship has spanned five decades, encompassing cooperation across various sectors throughout the period. This anniversary serves as a formal recognition of the sustained engagement between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Korea.

The diplomatic path between the two nations has been characterized by consistent dialogue and mutual interest. Since the formalization of ties in 1976, representatives from both states have worked to maintain active channels of communication. This sustained engagement has facilitated the growth of bilateral ties, allowing both the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Korea to navigate changing global landscapes while maintaining a steady connection. The half-century mark serves as a testament to the durability of these official channels.

Golden Jubilee Reception Held

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea hosted a reception at the Crowne Plaza Hotel to commemorate Korea's National Day and the golden jubilee of diplomatic ties between the two nations. Guests gathered at the venue in Manama to mark the half-century milestone of official relations. The event provided a platform for dignitaries and representatives to acknowledge the history shared by the two countries.

Modern cooperation between Bahrain and the Republic of Korea originated in 1975. This initial engagement involved the completion of a dry dock at the Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard by Korean companies, a project that established a foundation for subsequent industrial and commercial collaboration. The successful delivery of this infrastructure project demonstrated the potential for technical and industrial synergy between the two nations, setting a precedent for the decades of partnership that followed.

Ambassador Choi Byung-sun addressed the attendees during the event regarding the trajectory of the bilateral relationship. "We look forward to expanding our cooperation into new horizons — embracing innovation, sustainable development, and enhanced people-to-people exchanges for the benefit of both our countries," said Ambassador Choi Byung-sun. The address noted the importance of continuing the collaborative spirit that defined the early years of the relationship while adapting to the demands of the modern era.

Officials have identified specific sectors for future cooperation between the two states. These areas include artificial intelligence, aviation, automobiles, atomic energy, defence, and smart technology. The identified fields represent a shift toward high-technology industries as both nations seek to build upon the industrial progress established during the early years of their partnership. By focusing on these advanced sectors, the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Korea aim to ensure that their bilateral ties remain relevant and productive for the next generation of engagement. This strategic focus on technological advancement marks a new chapter in the history of the two nations, building directly upon the foundations laid by the industrial projects of the 1970s.
