Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, and Jordan announced their full support for Bahrain's measures to safeguard its security and sovereignty, according to reports, amid concerns over Iranian actions. Egypt reaffirmed its solidarity with Bahrain and its complete backing for all steps to ensure national security, uphold sovereignty, and maintain stability. Separately, Iranian missiles later targeted a US diplomatic facility near Baghdad International Airport on Tuesday, security sources said, killing two people after a projectile struck a house in Baghdad. Qatar's Defense Ministry confirmed the successful interception of an Iranian missile, with its interior ministry reporting four people injured after debris fell on a house following the interception.
Broader Regional Support
The Saudi Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its full support for Bahrain in all steps taken to address actions undermining its security and stability, and to deter interference in its internal affairs. Saudi Arabia stated that Bahrain’s security is an integral part of its own security and that of the wider Gulf region. Kuwait's Foreign Ministry affirmed that Bahrain’s security is an integral part of the security of Kuwait and the GCC states.
Jordan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates stated that Jordan stands in full solidarity with Bahrain, supporting all measures to preserve its sovereignty, security, and stability. Jordan emphasized backing efforts to protect citizens and residents and deter interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs. Egypt expressed strong backing for Bahrain’s efforts to address actions compromising its security or intimidating citizens and residents, while rejecting external interference. Egypt reiterated that the security and stability of Bahrain and all GCC states are inseparable from Egypt’s own national security. Syria also expressed solidarity with Bahrain in confronting attempts to undermine its security or interfere in its internal affairs, stressing firm rejection of all forms of external interference and showing the importance of respecting national sovereignty. The Muslim World League categorically rejected attempts that could undermine Bahrain’s sovereignty or threaten its national unity and stability.
Reported Threats and Infrastructure Targets
The main route connecting Bahrain and Saudi Arabia was closed. Kuwait's Interior Ministry instructed citizens and residents to remain in their homes, advising against leaving unless absolutely necessary, from Tuesday, April 7, at midnight until Wednesday, April 8, at 6:00 a.m. As a precautionary measure.
Turkey's state-run Anadolu Agency, citing the IRGC-linked Tasmin Agency, reported that Iran intends to target several infrastructure sites. These include the Sheik Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Sea Bridge in Kuwait, the King Fahd Causeway, which links Saudi Arabia to Bahrain, and the Sheik Zayed Bridge and Sheik Khalifa Bridge in the United Arab Emirates. Additionally, the King Hussein Bridge, Damia Bridge, and Abdoun Bridge in Jordan were listed as potential targets.
Tasmin Agency had previously reported, citing military sources, that Saudi Arabia's Aramco infrastructure, along with the Yanbu processing sites and the United Arab Emirates' Fajairah pipeline, would become targets. This threat was contingent on any attack by the United States or Israel on Iran's energy infrastructure.
Escalation and Interceptions
Early on Wednesday, Tehran launched a wave of missile barrages targeting several Gulf states, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Kuwait. Reports indicated this occurred shortly after US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire deal involving the US, Israel, and Iran. Following the barrages, a fire erupted at Abu Dhabi's Habshan gas processing facility, while Bahrain urged its public to seek safe spaces. Kuwait’s army confirmed the interception of hostile missiles and drones detected heading towards its territory.
The preventive decisions taken by Kuwait and Bahrain were reportedly made as Iranian-linked groups circulated a list of bridges and transport infrastructure identified as potential targets. This list was presented as a response to a recent IDF attack on Iran's railways. The United Arab Emirates also reported experiencing missile and drone threats from Iran, confirming that its air defense systems were actively working to intercept these threats.
