Honeywell Technologies has been selected to provide licensing and engineering services for a new aromatics complex in the Kingdom of Bahrain. This infrastructure project will be situated at the existing industrial complex operated by Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) in Sitra. Honeywell Technologies UOP will facilitate the technological integration required for the production facility. Officials confirmed that the expansion aims to enhance the industrial output of the site located in Sitra. The agreement marks a formal commitment to upgrading the capabilities of the GPIC facility through the deployment of Honeywell Technologies services. Development of the aromatics complex follows the established operational framework of the existing industrial zone in Bahrain. Honeywell Technologies will provide licensing and engineering services for a new aromatics complex in the Kingdom of Bahrain, as part of a strategic initiative to bolster the facility. The new aromatics complex will be located at GPIC's existing industrial complex in Sitra, utilizing the established site infrastructure to support the new production requirements.

Project Scope and Capacity

Annual production at the new aromatics complex is projected to reach approximately 1.2 million metric tons of paraxylene. This output volume aligns with the facility design specifications intended to increase the total chemical processing capacity at the Sitra site. The facility is expected to produce approximately 1.2 million metric tons of paraxylene annually, representing a significant addition to the site's manufacturing capability.

Operations at the site will also include the production of approximately 500,000 metric tons of benzene annually. The facility is expected to produce approximately 500,000 metric tons of benzene annually, contributing to the overall chemical output goals for the complex. Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company expects these figures to characterize the standard throughput of the facility once the aromatics complex reaches full operational status. The integration of Honeywell Technologies UOP systems serves to support these production targets within the existing industrial zone.

Technical Solutions and Expertise

Honeywell Technologies UOP will supply a suite of specialized process technologies to the new aromatics complex in Sitra. Honeywell Technologies UOP will provide Naphtha Hydrotreating, CCR Platforming, and LDPX Aromatics Complex process technologies. These systems include Naphtha Hydrotreating, CCR Platforming, and LDPX Aromatics Complex technologies. The implementation of these processes is intended to facilitate the conversion of naphtha into aromatics within the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) facility.

Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company and Honeywell Technologies maintain a longstanding relationship defined by previous collaborations. Honeywell Technologies and GPIC have a longstanding relationship involving previous collaborations on pressure swing adsorption technology, adsorbents, and process automation solutions. Both organizations have worked together on pressure swing adsorption technology, as well as the deployment of specialized adsorbents. Their history of cooperation also extends to the integration of process automation solutions within the existing industrial infrastructure in Bahrain. These prior engagements provide the operational foundation for the current technology deployment at the Sitra site. By leveraging this history of collaborative efforts, the companies aim to ensure the successful deployment of the new aromatics complex and its associated processing technologies.
