Bahrain has initiated a full cleanliness drive across Manama in preparation for the upcoming Ashoora celebrations. This extensive cleanliness drive has been specifically launched across Manama to ensure optimal conditions for the significant religious event. The extensive operation, launched to ensure hygienic conditions during the religious observance, focuses on maintaining public areas and facilities throughout the capital city. This proactive initiative is designed to support the large gatherings expected as part of the annual Ashoora commemorations, ensuring a clean and safe environment for all participants and visitors. The government's commitment shows the importance of public health and environmental responsibility during this sacred period.

Resources Deployed for Cleanliness

The cleanliness operation involves a substantial deployment of resources and personnel across Manama, noting the scale and importance of the preparations. A total of 300 sanitation workers have been assigned to the initiative, forming the core of the on-ground cleaning teams. These workers are supported by 12 dedicated cleanliness inspectors, who are tasked with overseeing the efforts and ensuring adherence to high sanitation standards across various sectors of the city. The operation includes a strong waste management infrastructure. For effective waste management, 300 waste containers and 250 rubbish bins have been strategically distributed throughout the capital, covering key areas and gathering points.

The logistical support for this extensive drive is full, including seven garbage trucks dedicated to waste collection and four mechanical sweepers to facilitate efficient collection and cleaning of streets and public spaces. These vehicles are key for managing the increased waste volume anticipated during the celebrations. Additionally, the drive emphasizes environmental responsibility with the provision of 10 special containers specifically designated for plastic recycling. These containers aim to manage different waste streams effectively during the Ashoora period, promoting sustainable practices alongside general cleanliness. The combined effort of personnel, equipment, and dedicated recycling facilities shows the holistic approach taken by the authorities.

Waste Segregation Initiative

Bahrain's registered places of worship have begun receiving dedicated recycling bins as part of an ongoing cleanliness drive, marking a significant step towards sustainable waste management. This initiative aims to introduce waste segregation at licensed mosques, ma’atams, and various religious gathering sites, where large numbers of worshippers congregate. The program is designed to manage different waste streams effectively during the Ashoora period, actively promoting environmental responsibility within these key community locations. By providing specific bins for different types of waste, the initiative encourages participants to sort their refuse at the source.

The distribution of these specialized bins is a key component of the broader effort to maintain heightened sanitation standards across Manama during the religious observance. This proactive measure ensures that waste is sorted at the point of origin, facilitating more efficient recycling and reducing the overall environmental impact. The introduction of waste segregation at these prominent religious sites reflects a commitment to integrating ecological practices into community events, fostering a culture of responsibility among attendees. This dedicated approach to waste management is expected to significantly contribute to the overall cleanliness and environmental health of the city during the Ashoora celebrations.

Official Statements and Public Cooperation

Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak inaugurated the main operations centre for sanitation services, showing the governmental focus on the initiative. During the inauguration, Mr. Al Mubarak emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to public health and environmental well-being during the religious observance. He stated, "Our priority is ensuring that municipal services operate efficiently during Ashoora through intensified cleaning operations and the deployment of all necessary manpower and resources." This statement notes the strategic planning and extensive resource allocation behind the drive.

Mr. Al Mubarak further added, "We want to maintain public cleanliness standards while providing the best possible services for mourners and visitors participating in the season’s events." This dual objective ensures both high sanitation levels and a welcoming environment for all. In support of these efforts, places of worship have been equipped with three colour-coded recycling bins, making waste separation intuitive and accessible. Mandatory plastic segregation is a key feature of this system, designed to enhance waste management and promote recycling within these community hubs. The successful implementation of these measures relies heavily on the cooperation of the public and the dedicated efforts of the assigned personnel.
