Bahrain has recently engaged in high-level discussions regarding new initiatives designed to attract a greater number of tourists during the upcoming summer season. These new initiatives were a central topic at a top-level meeting specifically convened to discuss and develop joint tourism packages tailored for the summer period. The significant gathering saw the participation of Tourism Minister Fatima Al Sairafi, who attended the meeting alongside key representatives from Bahrain's thriving hotel sector. The primary objectives of this important meeting were to strengthen existing partnerships within the tourism industry and to meticulously follow up on preparations for the various upcoming tourism seasons and significant events planned for the kingdom. During the full discussions, a range of proposals were carefully considered, all aimed at creating innovative joint tourism packages for the summer period through enhanced collaborations between hotels and various other key stakeholders in the tourism ecosystem.

Integrated Summer Offers

These thoughtfully designed packages are intended to provide visitors with integrated experiences that are specifically tailored to meet the distinct expectations and preferences of the Gulf market. The proposals for these new and exciting offerings include extensive coordination with a diverse array of entities, encompassing prominent shopping malls, experienced event management companies, and various other established tourism establishments across Bahrain. The overarching and ambitious goal behind these efforts is to successfully launch specialized offers that smoothly combine essential elements such as comfortable accommodation, engaging entertainment options, diverse shopping opportunities, and a wide variety of unique tourism experiences into full, appealing packages. These integrated packages are expected to simplify the travel planning process for visitors while offering a richer, more cohesive experience.

During the in-depth discussions, participants also took the opportunity to review the ongoing 'Walahna Alaikum' campaign. This particular campaign forms an integral part of a broader summer promotional campaign that has been strategically developed and specifically aimed at attracting visitors from the member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). This strategic focus on the GCC market follows a period of significant and encouraging growth for Bahrain's dynamic tourism sector. Notably, hotels across the kingdom recently experienced a strong surge in demand during the recent Eid season, with this heightened demand primarily driven by a substantial number of bookings from families traveling from GCC nations. This positive and sustained trend clearly shows the immense potential for integrated packages to further enhance Bahrain's appeal and solidify its position as a premier summer destination for regional tourists. The entire initiative seeks to capitalize effectively on this demonstrated demand by creating even more compelling, convenient, and attractive options for potential visitors from neighbouring countries.

Strategic Hotel Partnerships and Infrastructure Expansion

The strong partnership with Bahrain's vibrant hotel sector serves as a key pillar supporting the kingdom's ongoing tourism growth and is directly aligned with the ambitious goals outlined in the Tourism Sector Strategy 2022-2026. This strategic collaboration is designed not only to enhance but also to significantly expand the kingdom's hospitality infrastructure, ensuring it can comfortably accommodate a growing influx of visitors. As part of this forward-looking plan, between the years 2024 and 2026, concrete plans are firmly in place for the establishment of 16 new hotels across various locations within Bahrain. These significant additions are collectively projected to introduce more than 3,000 new hotel rooms to the market, substantially increasing the kingdom's lodging capacity. A substantial portion of this planned expansion is expected to materialize within the current year, with 12 new hotels specifically anticipated to open their doors in 2026. This extensive development reflects Bahrain's unwavering commitment to enhancing its capacity to accommodate an ever-increasing number of visitors and to offer a diverse and high-quality range of lodging options to suit all preferences. The increased inventory of hotel rooms is strategically intended to support the broader tourism objectives and targets meticulously outlined in the national strategy, contributing to a more strong and competitive tourism sector.

GCC Market Focus and Connectivity via King Fahad Causeway

Bahrain successfully welcomed an impressive 15 million visitors in 2025, a testament to its growing appeal as a regional and international destination. The King Fahad Causeway continues to serve as the kingdom's primary and most vital tourism artery, facilitating a significant portion of this visitor traffic. Recent data indicates a substantial increase in travellers utilising this key link, which physically connects Bahrain with its larger neighbour, Saudi Arabia. The number of individuals crossing the King Fahad Causeway demonstrated a remarkable rise, climbing from 833,000 in March to nearly 1.5 million in April. This surge represents an impressive 80 per cent increase in travellers crossing this key border point between March and April alone, noting its critical role in regional tourism.

Overall, more than 33 million travellers traversed the King Fahad Causeway during the course of 2025, showing the immense volume of cross-border movement. This significant figure marks a 1.6 per cent increase compared with the previous year, 2024, indicating consistent and steady growth in traffic. The consistent growth observed in causeway traffic notes the critical importance of regional connectivity for Bahrain's thriving tourism sector and strongly reinforces its strategic focus on attracting visitors from Gulf Cooperation Council nations. This continued emphasis on regional visitors, coupled with enhanced infrastructure and targeted promotional campaigns, positions Bahrain for sustained growth in its tourism industry.
