President Herzog Strengthens Regional Ties at CICA Summit

President Isaac Herzog attended the seventh summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Baku on 14 October 2026. Addressing the assembly, President Isaac Herzog stated, "Azerbaijan is a model of stability and an important and respected voice in the international community."

He also reflected on bilateral relations, noting, "Israel and Azerbaijan share a unique relationship, one that has been developed over many years and has proven its importance in complex times as well." President Isaac Herzog added, "I thank President Ilham Aliyev for our partnership and for the open dialogue between us, and I believe we have much more to achieve together: strengthening the ties between our peoples, expanding our cooperation, and creating new opportunities for generations to come."

Deepening Ties With Azerbaijan

Israel and Azerbaijan established diplomatic relations in April 1992. This move marked the formal beginning of cooperation between the two nations following the independence of Azerbaijan.

Diplomatic engagement between the countries reached a new stage in 2023 when Azerbaijan opened an embassy in Israel. The mission operates in Israel as the official representative of the Azerbaijani government, solidifying the presence of the state in the country. Both nations have maintained these ties throughout the subsequent years, building upon the initial agreement signed in 1992.

Expanding The Abraham Accords

Bahrain joined the Abraham Accords in 2020, becoming one of the nations to formalize a path toward normalized relations with Israel. Following this diplomatic shift, Israel opened an embassy in Manama, Bahrain, in 2021 to facilitate official state communication and bilateral cooperation. The mission serves as the primary point of contact for the Israeli government within the country.

Diplomatic expansion continues to reach other regions beyond the initial signatories of the accords. Colombia inaugurated its embassy in Jerusalem recently, establishing a permanent diplomatic presence in the city. This move represents the latest development in the international status of Jerusalem as a center for foreign missions.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with Paraguay's Vice President, Pedro Alliana, in Jerusalem on 8 October 2026. Both officials discussed the current state of relations between their nations during the visit. The meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Pedro Alliana took place as part of a series of high-level diplomatic engagements held in the city.
