Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) has selected Honeywell Technologies UOP to provide process technologies for a new aromatics complex at its existing industrial site in Sitra, Bahrain. Honeywell Technologies UOP will supply Naphtha Hydrotreating, CCR Platforming, and LDPX Aromatics Complex technologies for the facility. The selection of these specific process technologies marks a significant phase in the development of the project at the Sitra site. By implementing these systems, the facility is expected to enhance its operational efficiency and technical precision in the manufacturing of petrochemicals.
Yasser A. Rahim Alabbasi, Chief Executive Officer of GPIC, stated: "By collaborating with Honeywell Technologies UOP on this new aromatics complex, we are investing in world-class technologies that will strengthen our production capabilities, support long-term industrial growth and enable us to meet evolving market demand for essential petrochemical products." The integration of these technologies into the Sitra site is viewed as a strategic move to bolster the company's output capacity. This infrastructure expansion relies on the technical framework provided by the agreement between the two organizations to ensure the facility meets the required production standards.
Mohamed Sami, General Manager Saudi Arabia and Bahrain for Process Technology, Honeywell Technologies, added: "GPIC's selection of Honeywell Technologies UOP reflects its confidence in our technologies and execution capabilities. This project will help enable the efficient production of high-value petrochemical products while strengthening the Kingdom of Bahrain's industrial base." The collaboration focuses on the deployment of sophisticated engineering solutions designed to optimize the performance of the aromatics complex.
Facility Production Capacity Details
Annual output at the new aromatics complex will include 1.2 million metric tons of paraxylene. The facility is expected to produce approximately 1.2 million metric tons of paraxylene annually. This production level supports the facility’s role within the petrochemical infrastructure located at the Sitra industrial site. The scale of this output is intended to address the requirements of the broader petrochemical market.
Benzene production at the site is projected to reach 500,000 metric tons annually. The facility is expected to produce approximately 500,000 metric tons of benzene annually. These figures define the primary capacity targets established for the industrial expansion project. The site’s ability to meet these specific volume targets depends on the ongoing application of the chosen process technologies.
Honeywell Technologies UOP will supply the specialized catalysts, adsorbents, and equipment required to maintain these production volumes. Honeywell Technologies UOP will provide Naphtha Hydrotreating, CCR Platforming, and LDPX Aromatics Complex process technologies as part of this scope. Honeywell Technologies UOP will supply catalysts, adsorbents, and equipment for the project to ensure the systems function as intended. Integration of these materials and components into the facility infrastructure remains part of the technology agreement between the parties. The aromatics complex will be located at GPIC's existing industrial site in Sitra, Bahrain, utilizing the site's established logistical and industrial advantages to streamline the manufacturing process for both paraxylene and benzene.
